a quick hack for LinkedIn

play while you can..

Congrats to all of the people who have decided to stay on the newsletter so far.

Here’s something cool.

Kit (formerly ConvertKit) lets you test subject headers -

Growing users for a niche app was favoured better than the words “a quick hack”.

I’ll test the language again this week - but have the feeling “quick hack” isn’t favoured language.

I’ll let you know next time what happens.

Onto today.

Part of my business process is just talking to founders.

I can do this via LinkedIn and checked in on a gentleman named Lloyd.

I’m already connected to Lloyd and sent him a friendly note:

I got a voice message back.

This isn’t out of the blue.

He explained its easier for him, had a cheerful voice, and its a good way to cut-through when a lot more people work remotely now.

Good job Lloyd.

But I’m nothing if not a one-upper so decided to go back with more cut-through…

Does it work?

I don’t know, but it wasn’t that much harder to turnaround and play with it.

And here’s the link to early startups.

“Yes Dad”...

This is THE time to be playing - once you’re bigger you’ve got boring things to heed like brand guidelines, comms protocols, and you’ll be doing anything but shooting from the hip.

So you may as well be flinging some blanks while you can (I am!) 💥 🔫

This is the new version of the old AI versus Marshy newsletter.

Content will be more like the above and less like a news outlet that hypes big tech - you can unsub with this big red button (or the unsub at the bottom) and I am happy to save your inbox!

You're enjoying it?

Well push this big green button to throw in a recommendation - just a quote saying why and any other information you'd like to share, I may just use it in future marketing collateral 😉

a braindump. Hi Reader, I disappeared for a while. I’m sorry - late last year I joined a startup, then earlier this year went full-time contract on it with a high-risk, go big, or go home kind of bid. We’re now in the latter stages of that bid and at the “omgwtf I’m not sure if this is going to work out” stage, and look: I got what I signed up for. It’s been eye-opening and gratifying jumping onto the tools and building a growth engine for another business and if it doesn’t work it won’t be...

the results are in. Last week I said I had a bit of spare time and wanted to test more video with shorts. This is what happened in the last week: Not bad right? Well actually in the scheme things - it’s unprecedented. Here’s the lifetime view count of my channel: The number’s pathetic. It’s never been a focus, and while I love presenting, have never been inclined to go hard at it because I have other things to do (like work for clients, raise my family, get sober and completely transform my...

a tierlist for growth channels. Have you heard of tier lists? They’re very common in gaming world. Influencers like to put together lists ranking characters, items, or selections and opine on them. I had a quieter week as I work through a project exension and thought: Do you know what the world needs? A tierlist for growth channels for startups. But not just any tierlist, but grabbing and ranking the channels from the book Traction. Written in 2015 Here’s the channels from the book: •...
